Body of War is a film by Ellen Spiro and Phil Donahue with original songs by Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and many others. This hard hitting documentary will be screened March 13th at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin Texas and opens in select theaters nationwide in March.

The new double album soundtrack contains 30 tracks in a collection called “Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran.”  The 2-CD set is due to be released March 18th on Sire Records, part of the Warner Music family of labels.  All proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War.

We’re remembering George Harrison. He was really Something. During his time on earth (February 25, 1943 - November 29, 2001) he blessed us with his wonderful music, wit and wisdom. His spirit lives on forever through his fans, like in this very nice video tribute posted on YouTube by eriatarkavivi.

When I first saw this “new release,” I thought “Oh great, just what we need, another best of the Doors collection.”  However, upon reading through the release notes, I see it’s remixed and remastered by Bruce Botnick.  He was the band’s engineer and sometimes producer, the studio wizard behind the knobs.  Music from our past, from a band that was way ahead of the times.
So I’m thinking this might be pretty good stuff, as long as it’s not compressed beyond the limits of human endurance, as so many other so called “remastered” packages are these days.

The buzz is on for British female pop artists. Kate Nash just won at the recent Brit 2008 Awards for Best British Female Solo Artist. Combine that with the fact that Amy Winehouse won five Grammys, which is the most ever by a British female artist. Cindy Martin reports via Reuters Entertainment Video.

Mayer really touches on a couple of key topics that strike a familiar chord with me…

• When he works with other artists, he doesn’t overshadow their songs.  (He checks his ego at the door.  How many artists do that?)

• There’s a lot more losers than winners at the Grammys.  (1 winner out of 4 nominations plus 50 years in how many catagories?)

• He’s blessed because he can express his emotions in his music.  (We should all be so lucky!)
